Saturday result - Bison 3-2 Phoenix

The Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison made it three wins from three, as their excellent start to the English Premier League season continued with a 3-2 victory over defending champions Manchester Phoenix.

It could have been very different for the double winners, as the visitors took the lead after just 21 seconds, when Robin Kovar fired the Phoenix in front. The response was fairly swift from the Herd, as a powerplay strike from Ciaran Long after 6:04 meant the scores were level heading into the second.

The Herd would move into the driving seat when man-of-match Joe Greener continued his impressive form to net, once again on the powerplay in the second, before Andy Melachrino extended that advantage further in the third, again on the man advantage.

The Phoenix attempted a comeback when Michal Psurny found the back of the net but the Bison held on to secure another vital two points in the quest for the title.

The Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison return to action on Sunday night with a trip to the Peterborough Phantoms before welcoming the Telford Tigers to the Basingstoke Arena next Saturday (27th).
