Saturday Result: Bison 4 Phoenix 3

The Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison returned to winning ways on Saturday, battling through a tight encounter against the Manchester Phoenix to record a 4-3 victory.

It looked although former Bison Shaun Thompson would come back to haunt the hosts when he gave the Phoenix a first period lead, although a powerplay strike from Tomas Karpov meant the sides went into the break level.

Once again it was the visitors who took the lead with Robin Kovar lighting the lamp, but man-of-the-match Ciaran Long, once again, proved a thorn in the Phoenix faithful's side with a second period salvo to put the Herd in front.

A nervy final period was set when Johan Burlin's precision effort found its way in for an equaliser but player/coach Doug Sheppard made sure of the two points for the Bison moments later with a fine turn and shot.

The Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison now face the trip up to the Sheffield Steeldogs today (5.30pm) looking to build on a good performance. The Herd aren't back in home action until Saturday 1st November when they'll look to avenge that defeat against the Bracknell Bees.
