Weekend Review - Bison take the two

The Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison once again took two points from their weekend's action, with an encouraging home performance against the Milton Keynes Lightning resulting in a 3-2 victory - but Sunday woes struck again, as the Manchester Phoenix recorded an 8-3 win over the Herd.

Saturday's game started in promising form with a dominating first period display being rewarded with Joe Greener's opening strike on the powerplay for the lead.

The Bison continued to push in the second, with Grant Rounding and Tomas Karpov combined for successive strikes as the hosts looked to be easing to victory.

However, two powerplay strikes from Blaz Emersic ensured the Bison wouldn't enjoy a comfortable ending to the game, but the Stampede held on to a claim a vital two points.

It looked although that performance would carry over into Sunday's game in Manchester, as Karpov and Michael Wales moved the Bison into a two-goal lead after the first period.

The Phoenix fought back through two powerplays goals from Robin Kovar and Frantisek Bakrlik - only for Ciaran Long to reestablish the Bison lead - but that would again be eradicated by Michal Psurny as the sides went in level to the third.

That would be the last the Herd had to celebrate though, as five unanswered goals handed the Phoenix an 8-3 victory with Psurny completing his hat-trick.

The Herd return to action at home on Saturday against the Swindon Wildcats (6.30pm face-off) before making the trip to face the Telford Tigers on Sunday (5.30pm face-off).
