Barton becomes a BisonThe Sherfield School Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of Jakub Barton for the 2016/17 season.
The Czech defenceman will complete the Herd roster for the upcoming campaign, bringing a wealth of experience to the blueline as the Herd aim to successfully defend their EPIHL title.
Miroslav Vantroba's decision to stay at home may have caused a headache for Doug Sheppard at such short notice, but the 35-year-old appears to be the perfect fit for the team.
"I couldn't be happier to be bringing Jakub to Basingstoke for the upcoming season." remarked Sheppard.
"From the moment his resume became available, he became my number one target. The feedback we've received on him is extremely positive and fits in with the atmosphere I am trying to build upon here.
"Having played alongside Petr Polodna last season too, it should make his integration into the squad easier and I can't wait for him to line-up on Wednesday."
With nearly 700 games experienced in the Czech second tier, Barton's trip to Britain will be the first outside of his home land, during which he spent the majority of his career with Olomouc, whom he captained for a number of seasons, helping them to promotion to the top flight in 2014.
Putting up over 200 points during that time, he will look to contribute to the Bison defensive unit, alongside Kurt Reynolds, Joe Baird, Stuart Mogg, Declan Balmer and new signing Lewis Turner.
Whilst in support of the statement released by Planet Ice earlier today, we are hopeful that supporters will continue to focus their energy on supporting the team and the organisation in the upcoming season, which we hope will be another positive and ultimately successful one for the Bison and our fanbase.
