Weekend Preview

Itís home ice action again this Saturday at the Basingstoke Arena as the Telford Tigers provide the opposition for the Sherfield School Basingstoke Bison in a National Cup match. The Herd will be looking for a reverse after last Sunday when they travelled to Shropshire extremely short benched and lost out by a single goal.

The Herd will welcome back Paul Petts this weekend but Dan Davies will be sidelined until cleared by a doctor as being in good enough health to return to training and playing. Jaro Cesky is still questionable with a lower body injury too.

Crucially for the sport Shropshire remains a destination for the teams comprising the second tier. Tom Watkins is once again in charge and veteran Canadian Jason Silverthorn wears the C. 38 year old Silverthorn isnít the only well experienced player on the team with 39 year old Rick Plant out done by 40 year old Jonathan Weaver.

In net last year was former Bison Jon Baston but the change in league and import rules has meant teams favouring British trained netminders this year and Dennis Bell started last weekendís game making a respectable 42 saves out of 43 shots.a

After his short benched Teamís narrow defeat the previous weekend Head Coach and Director of Hockey Doug Sheppard looked ahead to the coming weekend by saying; "We will be looking to reverse the outcome from last Sunday as we play Telford this Saturday on home ice with fans behind us. Paul Petts will be back in the lineup, Cesky is still questionable with injury. Dan Davies will be sidelined until he is cleared by a doctor due to his general health. Then on Sunday we travel to Bracknell and play a much improved Bees team."

Tickets for the Saturday 6.30pm home game are available in person, on-line or by telephone at the arena Box Office. You can call 01256 355266.
