Last week the NIHL National Owners Group met to agree the structure and timings for the upcoming 2021/22 season. Working on the basis that the government plans for bringing restrictions to an end broadly follow the published timetable we’re delighted to share that competitive fixtures will begin with a cup competition on 4th September 2021.

Tait to Lead the Herd ...

The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the appointment of Ashley Tait to the role of Player / Head Coach. Ashley will also become the club's Director of Hockey, assuming responsibility for all Bison hockey operations.

In an illustrious playing career so far spanning more than 20 years, Ashley has represented amongst others the Coventry Blaze, Nottingham Panthers, Sheffield Steelers, MK Lightning and Belfast Giants.

Ashley was the first player ever in the Elite League to reach 700 points and is one of only two players to reach 250 goals.

He has also represented Great Britain in 115 fixtures, one of the organisation's most capped players in their history.

Ashley also brings to the role his past experience of being a Player/Assistant Coach at both the Steelers and Blaze. But his appointment at the Bison will be his first opportunity to demonstrate his abilities as a Head Coach.

Ashley commented, "This is a great opportunity for me and I'm excited at the challenge ahead. I am joining a professional organisation with a great loyal fan base and am excited at the prospect of building the team and club as a whole. As current NIHL champions we have a championship to defend "
