‘Mr Basingstoke Returns to the Herd’As the on-ice recruitment progresses in earnest Coach Tait has always been looking at how best to shape the coaching side of the organisation and with this in mind, the Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce that Tony “Tosh” Redmond will be joining the Herd as Assistant Coach and will be in charge of running the bench on match nights.
Tosh, a club legend, is fondly known as “Mr Basingstoke”. His jersey hangs on the wall of the arena having played for the Herd for 14 seasons amassing over 500 points during this time.
Commenting on his return to the Herd Tosh said, “Anyone who knows me will know that I am glad to be ‘home’. It’s been a very turbulent beginning to the off season but as the dust settles there is now an amazing opportunity for the new generation of Bison players to play their part in this club’s fantastic history. I am excited at the prospect of working with Ash and ensuring that the foundations are in place for the natural progression of players from junior to senior hockey for many years to come”.
Coach Tait said on Tosh’s appointment, “Whilst I’m on the ice playing I needed a steady and experienced head on the bench and couldn’t think of a better person. Tosh is a great communicator who can work with young and experienced players alike and having talked with Tosh we most certainly will be on the same wavelength and I can’t wait to get started”.
