Planet Ice and the Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of the 2012 EPL Playoff winning player coach Doug Sheppard for the 2012/13 season. The 35-year-old Canadian who spent the past season with the Slough Jets has agreed to join the Bison as the new player coach.
During his time in the Hangar, Sheppard won the EPL League playoff championships and built an exciting, physical team. A delighted John Neville, Planet Ice Group Managing Director confirmed he was looking forward to working with Sheppard: “Doug is a proven winner at this level and is well known to all Bison fans during his time with the organisation as Player Coach in the Elite league. Doug is renowned for putting together hard hitting, exciting teams that play hockey. I am delighted that he see’s joining the ‘Bison as the next challenge in his career and feels excited about the opportunity to bring silverware to Basingstoke”.
Sheppard said, “When I heard there was a chance to return to Basingstoke to lead the herd once again I was really excited. I met with John Neville last week who outlined a vision to develop the Bison from being a local team into an organisation which sets the standard both on and off the ice. The fan base is one of the noisiest in the EPL and I can’t wait for September to play in front of them once again. My intention over the next year is to hopefully bring some silverware back to Basingstoke and to establish a sustainable programme that contributes to the development of hockey in the UK”.
Doug has signed for the Bison on a 1 year contract with an option for a further year; he hails from Georgetown, Ontario, stands at 5 foot 10, weighs 180lbs, and shoots right handed. Previous clubs include; Providence College, Roanoke Express, New Haven Knights, Fassa HC, Oklahoma City Blazers, Basingstoke Bison, Sheffield Steelers and Slough Jets.
Doug has announced that there will be a “meet the coach evening” next Wednesday 2nd May where he will announce the first of his player signings and when season tickets details will be announced and can be purchased as the Herd begin the build up to the 2012/13 season. The event will commence at 7.30pm in the ice rink bar.
Following the success of last season’s Own-and-Loan jersey’s, the Basingstoke Bison are once again delighted to offer the opportunity for fans to ‘Own-and-Loan’ the home and away jersey’s that will be worn by the Bison throughout the 2012/13 season.
Each player’s home and away jersey will be available to purchase at £150 and £120 respectively. All Owners and Loaners will have their name printed on the back of the player’s jersey, as well as having the opportunity of a photograph with their respective player at the end of the season.
All you have to do is e-mail info@bstokebison.co.uk - the shirts will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis, when the announcement is made on the Official Basingstoke Bison website.
Pocket Money Sponsors
The feedback we have had from the junior fans this year is that they have loved sponsoring the individual players. This will be back for the 2012/2013 season.
Young fans can sponsor their favourite player for the year. This will cost £30 for the season and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. When the announcement is made on the Official Basingstoke Bison website, email info@bstokebison.co.uk to secure your favourite player.
