Five Star Signings for Bison
3rd of May 2012
THE ADD Recycling Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce five star signings to the Herd for the forthcoming season, which is sure to send shock waves around the rest of the English Premier League

The Bison have snapped up Stevie Lyle, Greg Owen, Joe Greener, Joe Miller and Tony Redmond and add to the already signed Kurt Reynolds along with player/coach Doug Sheppard it gives the Herd a magnificent seven already.

Former Great Britain goalie Lyle played for the Bison briefly in season 2007/08 before joining Belfast and then returning to his home town team the Cardiff Devils where in April he back stopped them to the Elite League play-offs final.

Centreman Owen spent three years with the Herd in the Elite League between 2005 and 2008 scoring over 100 points.

He then spend a season in France, before returning to Britain to help the Coventry Blaze to the Elite League crown and in three campaigns with the Midlands outfit he scored 65 goals.

Power forward Greener played his junior hockey in Basingstoke and as a teenager pulled on a Bison shirt in the old British National League.

After a spell in North America he returned to Britain, playing for the Bracknell Bees and then the Slough Jets for the past three years where he scored over 70 points in each season and helped the Berkshire side to the EPL play-off crown last month.

Adding even more firepower to the forward line is another Welshman Miller who was the Bison’s leading goal scorer last season hitting the net an impressive 30 times.

Basingstoke legend and all-time top scoring Brit Redmond is back for season number 14 and only needs six more league appearances to become the first player to reach 500 league games for the club.

A delighted Bison boss Sheppard said: “I am over the moon with all the signings I have made so far.

“Stevie (Lyle) is a going to be one of the top goalies in this league and give us a chance to win every night.

“Greg (Owen) is one of the top two way British centre man and Joe (Greener) has been by line mate for the past two seasons and is a true power forward.”

He added: “Joe (Miller) was Basingstoke’s best forward last year when I played against them and Tony (Redmond) will play wherever he is asked to and is a great leader in the dressing room, so making him an ideal captain.”

All the new signings are excited about the comings to the Bison and helping the team hopefully end their trophy drought.

Cardiff-born Lyle said: “It is great to be back in Basingstoke and I am looking forward to the challenge of the new season.”

Owen is another player thrilled to be back and said: “This is a great fit for me and I can’t wait to get skating and playing for the Bison again.”

Greener is delighted to link-up with Sheppard and said: “I had three good years in Slough and feel this is great new challenge for me. I have enjoyed playing with Doug over the past two years as we have done really well.”

Double EPL league winner Miller is hoping to complete a hat-trick and said: “I really believe that the team will be fighting for silverware and I was keen to be a part of it.”

New club captain Redmond said: “I am honoured to be captain and I am still as hungry and ambitious to win trophies as I was when I first joined the team at 18.”

Following the success of last season’s Own-and-Loan jersey’s, the Basingstoke Bison are once again delighted to offer the opportunity for fans to ‘Own-and-Loan’ the home and away jersey’s that will be worn by the Bison throughout the 2012/13 season.

Each player’s home and away jersey will be available to purchase at £150 and £120 respectively. All Owners and Loaners will have their name printed on the back of the player’s jersey, as well as having the opportunity of a photograph with their respective player at the end of the season.
