THE ADD Recycling Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of giant import defenceman Tomas Fojtik.
The 28-year-old who stands 6ft 5in and weighs 250lbs hails from the Czech Republic which is where he started his career with home town team Koprivnice.
In 2003 he crossed the Atlantic to join the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League and two years later played in hard hitting East Coast Hockey League for Fresno Falcons.
Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard spoke to his coach during his time at Fresno and was impressed with what he heard.
Sheppard said: “I was told he skates well for a big guy and he can certainly look after himself. He is sure to bring a physical presence to our defence and has a good shot on the powerplay which is an added bonus.
“He is a left hander which was also something I was looking for, so making him the ideal fit for the team in my eyes.”
After his spells in North America he also played in Italy, Slovakia and most recently in France for Montpellier and last season at Reims.
There he scored five times in a points tally of 13 from 25 league games and also picked up 38 minutes in penalties.
Bison boss Sheppard believes his physical style of play is much more suited to the British game and is looking forward to his new import being part of a very solid five-man defensive unit for the club.
Fojtik’s jersey is available to Own and Loan at a price of £150 for the home jersey and £120 for the away shirt.
All Owners and Loaners will have their name printed on the back of the player’s jersey, as well as having the opportunity of a photograph with their respective player at the end of the season.
All you have to do is e-mail info@bstokebison.co.uk - the shirts will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis, when the announcement is made on the Official Basingstoke Bison website.
