The ADD Recycling Basingstoke Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard is excited that the new season is just around the corner and with his recruitment completed he is now plotting what he hopes will be a very successful campaign.
Sheppard guided the Herd to their best ever finish in the Elite League when previously in charge at Basingstoke and looking at the side he has put together there is no reason to think he will now not do the same thing in the EPL.
The new Bison boss has certainly added a lot of new faces from last season and said: “I am very pleased with the way the summer recruitment has gone and feel we have a very competitive team.
“We have the 4 on 4 to start our preparation then a big test against last year’s champions Guildford.”
Basingstoke will be keen to retain the Oliveria 4 on 4 trophy in this year’s tournament again on home ice on September 1.
Exactly a week later, the Flames burn into town for a match which is the first season ticket game.
Sheppard casting his eye over the forward unit which likes a very explosive offence with so many weapons.
The Herd head man said: “I think we will have three strong forward lines and for me it is just a matter of working out the best line combinations. We will try a few things early in the season and see what happens.”
Looking at the defence the Bison boss said: “I wanted a defensive core that would play a physical style with good clean hits.
“I want them to make it difficult for players to be able to park themselves in front of the net and give Stevie Lyle the protection he needs so he only has to make the first stop.”
With the side he has put together Sheppard is a very happy man at the moment and added: “I want us to play strong team defence with a good work ethic and be able to be turn defence into offence quickly.”
The countdown is on to what should be the Bison’s most exciting EPL season to date.
