The ADD Recycling Basingstoke Bison got their pre-season off to a perfect start as for the 2nd successive year they won the Oliveira 4 on 4 tournament on home ice, not losing a game along the way.
The rules where simple, 20 minutes of running clock action, minimal contact, 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss.
The Bison opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Wightlink Raiders. New signing Joe Rand took just 25 seconds to open his account for the Herd against his former team, turning home a pass from Joe Greener in front of the net. Impressive youngster Cameron Wynn netted the first of 4 goals he would go on to score in the tournament at 9:43, after Greg Owen set him free in the slot and Wynn fired home low to the blocker side of former teammate Matt Colclough in the Raiders net. Greg Chambers, returning to the Bison after a 3 year absence, coasted around the Raiders defence and slotted home the Bison's 3rd goal at 11:50, assisted by Joe Rand, before Richard Facey pulled a goal back for the Raiders at 15:51, assisted by Alex Murray. Connor Standing got the win in net for the Herd.
Game 2 of the tournament saw the Bracknell Bees face the Invicta Dynamos, with the Dynamos coming out on top with a 1-0 win thanks to a Tim Smith strike, assisted by Nathaniel Rose and Justin Noble. Tom Annetts and Andy Moffat got the start in net for their respective teams.
The Bison where back in action for game 3, as they faced off against the Bees. Doug Sheppard replaced Greg Chambers in the Bison line-up for this game, with the tournaments 2 import limit in effect. It was netminder Connor Standing who stole the show however, with the 17 year old making a string of spectacular saves late in the game. The Herd ran out 2-0 winners, through goals from Cameron Wynn, as he slammed in a rebound after Annetts had stopped Greg Owen on a breakaway, and Carl Graham, who fired in from the slot after good work from Joe Rand who dug the puck out in the corner and fed Graham streaking into the slot.
The Invicta Dynamos and Whitelink Raiders served up an entertaining 3-3 tie in game 4. Peter Vaisanen opened the scoring for Invicta, assisted by Daniel Fudger and Tom Avery at 5:08. Kieren Annis pulled a goal back for Whitelink at 6:52 assisted by Robbie brown, before Raiders jumped out to a 3-1 lead through goals by Aiden Doughty, assisted by Jiri Hanzel at 10:15, and a superb individual Robbie Brown strike at 13:39. Dynamos scored 2 quick goals to pull themselves back into the game, with Tim Smith scoring at 16:14 from a Peter Vaisanen assist, and just 13 seconds later Daniel Fudger found the net assisted by Vaisanen again and Aaron Strawson.
Game 5 saw the Bracknell Bees and Whitelink Raiders battle to a 1-1 tie. Matt Foord fired a wrist shot over Whitelink netminder Dan Weller-Evans at 9:05, with Jiri Hanzel replying for the Raiders at 18:33 assisted by Robbie Brown.
Game 6 saw the Bison face the Invicta Dynamos in the final round robin game. Alec Field, guesting for the Bison as back-up to Connor Standing, got the nod in net for the Herd. Joe Rand scored his 2nd goal of the tournament as he tipped in a Joe Greener point shot at 9:13, and Dynamos replied at 15:25 through Peter Vaisanen, leaving the final score 1-1.
The tie left the Bison top of the points table with 7 points from 2 wins and a tie, with Dynamos 2nd on 5 points from a win and 2 ties. Meaning the Bison would face the Dynamos again in the final. Whitelink Raiders finished 3rd in the table on 2 points from 2 ties, with the Bracknell Bees 4th on 1 point from their tie with Whitelink.

Jacob Corson-Heron opened the scoring at 2:36 after combining well with Andrew Melachrino, before Cameron Wynn added a 2nd at 4:36 with a wrist shot from the slot, assisted by captain Tony Redmond. Cameron Wynn netted his 2nd of the final and 4th of the tournament after combining well with Greg Owen at 7:29. Greg Owen found the net himself at 9:54 as he tipped in a Joe Greener shot, with Andrew Melachrino also assisting, before Greg Chambers, back in the Bison line-up for Joe Rand, picked up the only penalty of the tournament for roughing at 11:28. Just as the penalty expired, Justin Noble fired past Connor Standing to get the Dynamos on the board at 13:33 with Callum Best and Aaron Strawson assisting. Peter Vaisanen added a 2nd for the Dynamos at 16:26 unassisted, before Greg Chambers and Greg Owen combined well again, with Chambers slamming the puck home at the far post from Owen's pass across goal.
Cameron Wynn was voted man-of-the-match for the Herd, with Peter Vaisanen the winner for the Dynamos.
It was left to Bison captain Tony Redmond to pick up what he hopes will be the first trophy of many for Doug Sheppard's men this season.
