Bison bolster their defence
28th of November 2012
The ADD Recycling Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of James Hutchinson.
The 28-year-old is rated as one of the best defencemen in the English Premier League and joins after being released by the Peterborough Phantoms.
Hutchinson was an EPL grand slam winner with Peterborough and also won the Elite League crown last season with the Belfast Giants
He is smooth skater who sees the ice well and during the Phantoms triple winning season racked up 58 points of which 48 were assists.
The native of the north east is also no stranger to Basingstoke having played for the Herd in season 2003/04 the club's first in the Elite League.
Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard is delighted with the latest addition and said: "He is certainly going to add even more depth to our team and is a player who knows what it takes to win championships.
"I have always found him a difficult player to play against and I also think he will be able to help out our powerplay."
New signing Hutchinson said: "I am really looking forward to coming back to Basingstoke and helping them win some trophies. I was very impressed with the Bison when I played against them earlier in the season.
The latest addition will make his debut for the Herd against the Manchester Phoenix in a top-of-the-table clash at the Basingstoke Arena on Saturday night.
Face-off is 6.30pm and tickets are selling fast so secure yours today by ringing the box office on (01256) 355266.
The Bison are hoping that Joe Miller a team mate of Hutchinson's at Peterborough will return from injury for the Phoenix clash as the EPL leaders looked to secure the series win over the visitors currently four points behind them in the standings.
Sheppard said: "This game is massive for us. Manchester are a hard working team and we know we will have to be at our best to beat them."
On Sunday the Herd travel to Peterborough which means a quick return for Hutchinson to his former team in a game which has a 5.30pm face-off.
Talking ahead of the road trip Sheppard said: "Peterborough is always a difficult place to go and play and we will have to battle hard if we are to get a result."
