Big Weekend For Bison
13th of December 2007
Top British forward Greg Owen returns to the Basingstoke Bison line-up this weekend, as the Herd go head-to-head with two of their close play-off rivals.

On Saturday night the Hull Stingrays, one place and one point behind the Bison are in town, while on Sunday, the Herd travel to Altrincham to face the Manchester Phoenix, who are just above Basingstoke in the Elite League standings.

The Bison will be in a confident mood going into this weekend, after an awesome display last Sunday, when they beat the Sheffield Steelers 3-2.

The game against Hull could well be just as close, as their netminder Ladislav Kudrna is currently in red hot form, having conceded one goal in each of his last two games.

The Stingrays have some injury problems at the moment with imports Cole Byers and Nikolai Ladygin both out, but despite this they posted a 2-1 victory over Cardiff last Sunday, and then suffered a penalty shoot loss on Wednesday night against Newcastle.

Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "We are expecting a tight game, one in which we must stay focused and not get frustrated. We want the win and if it be just one goal in the 59th minute I will take that.

He added: " We want to make the play-offs, that is our aim for the season and beating Hull I believe will help us achieve that in the long run."

Adding extra spice to the contest is the return of former Bison forward Slava Koulikov who is now back in a Stingrays uniform.

Tickets for what should be another great Saturday night at the Basingstoke Arena are still available from the box office on (01256) 355266, and the game has a 6.30pm start time.

On Sunday, the Bison travel to Altrincham looking to complete a clean sweep of wins over the Manchester Phoenix on their ice this season.

Back in September, Steve Thornton helped himself to a hat-trick in a 7-4 success, then only last month the Herd won 6-5, with Thornton and Campbell getting a brace each.

Talking about the game, Aldridge said: "We have played well in their building this season and I can't see why that can't happen again. It is another massive game as they are currently just above us in the standings."
