Giants led 4 times in this game but were pegged back each time by a determined Bison before the visitors finally gained the extra point by scoring twice in the penalty shootout through Peter Campbell and Scott Cameron, while Bison were held blank.
It was shorthanded that Giants took the early lead with a strike by Shaun Sutter (7th) at 4.55 but Bison were soon level at 6.34 with Steve Thornton (14th) scoring. Chances at either end that but it was the visitors who took a lead into the dressing rooms when again shorthanded Ed Courtenay (12th) scored at 18.32.
We had a rush of goals around the halfway mark of the game as firstly Brad Cruikshank (10th) tied it up at 31.52 only for Sutter (8th) to edge Giants back in front 26 seconds later. This time the lead only lasted 127 seconds with Greg Chambers (11th) making it 3-3 at 34.25.
Into the third period and that man Sutter (9th) completed his hat trick at 44.45 and this time it looked like Giants might hold the lead before at 56.33 Thornton (15th) hit his 2nd of the game for 4-4 and take the game to overtime - no more than Bison deserved as they outshot Giants by 20-5 in the period.
Neither team could find the scoring touch during the extra 5 minutes but it was Giants prevailing in the shootout to take the extra point.
