Three periods of contrasting hockey in this high scoring shoot out . The first period saw the teams share five goals the middle session was blanked despite 27 shots on goal and then the teams shared six goals in the third period.
The Bison got off to a flyer as Greg Owen slotted home his eighth goal of the season to put the visitors in front with 51 seconds on the clock. After that initial set back the home side were soon back on level terms at 2.34 as Joe Tallari (as he became the first player to hit 20 goals this season) found the Bison net. The visitors restored their lead as Derek Campbell (8th) netted at 4.13. Campbell then netted his 9th of the season and second of the game at 15.34 to open up a two goal lead. Joe Tallari (21st) pulled one back on the powerplay with his second of the game at 17.16, for the Bison to lead 3-2 after the first session.
The second period was goalless and with only the one goal separating the teams it was all to play for in the third period.
The Bison two goal hero Derek Campbell was binned on a minor for hooking 7 seconds into the third period and the Phoenix took full advantage of the extra man as Joe Tallari (22nd) tied the game up as he hit home his hat trick marker with 40.34 on the clock.
The Phoenix then edged in front at 45.01 with a goal from Brian Passmore (4th) but their lead lasted all of 23 seconds as Danny Stewart (12th) made it four apiece at 45.24. The hosts once again got their nose in front with a powerplay goal from Simon Mangos (3rd) at 47.03.
The Phoenix were dealt a real body blow as Steve Thornton (12th/13th) hit a double in as many minutes with his goals coming at 49.30 and 51.20 to edge the Bison in front once again. This was a lead they held onto to collect a four point weekend and to secure their third win in a row - the first time this season they have managed that.
