Canadian Double for Bison
17th of August 2007
The wait has been worth it for the Basingstoke Bison fans, as head coach Ryan Aldridge has completed a double capture, which will add even more firepower to the already impressive Herd.

The Bison boss has secured the signatures of two exciting young players, new to the club and Britain, in defenceman Kyle Peto and forward Danny Stewart.

Canadian Peto is a high scoring blue liner who last season was part of the Kelly Cup winning Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL.

In 48 regular games for the American outfit last term, the 24-year-old, collected 21 points, which included hitting the net eight times.

The native of Lethbridge, started the year in the Finnish Elite League with KalPa Kuopio, having had a very accomplished career for the Minnesota State University where he was the second highest ever points scoring defenceman in the college's history with 78 points in 111 games.

Talking about the latest addition to his defence, Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "Kyle feels he is more suited to the European style of hockey. He is a young untapped player who is used to winning, and has put up some impressive stats so far in his career."

Fellow Canadian Stewart (22) from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is a former team mate of Pittsburgh Penguin star man Sidney Crosby, and together they won the QMJL Championship in season 2004/05 with Rimouski Oceanic where the Herd's new boy collected two 50 point plus seasons.

He also played for the Prince Edward Island Rocket and returned impressive numbers of 67 points in 58 games.

In 2003, he was a fourth round draft pick by of the Montreal Canadiens (123th overall).

Last year his rookie professional season was with the Utah Grizzles in the ECHL finishing third in the club's scoring race with 33 points from 52 games.

Looking at his final import forward signing Aldridge said: "He has been described to me like Darcy Tucker, he plays a bit niggily and is someone other players won't enjoy playing against."
The latest additions leave just two more names to be announced, as the excitement for the start of the season builds.
