Bison make final play-off push
20th of March 2008
It is crunch time for the Basingstoke Bison, as they look to take that prized final play-off spot away from the Edinburgh Capitals, on this the last weekend of the regular season.

It could all come down to a winner-takes all clash on Sunday night in Scotland, when the Bison travel to face the Caps.

Both teams currently have 37 points each, with Edinburgh occupying the eighth and final play-off spot by virtue of more victories in regulation time.

However, the Herd have a game in hand on their rivals, which they play on Thursday night, in Dundalk against the Belfast Giants.

The Bison will only be minus assistant/coach Steve Thornton for the game in Ireland, as he is ruled out after having surgery on his hand last week.

Victory over Belfast, would be a great boost for the Herd ahead of the final league weekend, which will see them take on visiting league champions Coventry Blaze on Saturday evening, while the Capitals travel to the Sheffield to face the Steelers on the same night.

The Bison have been victorious over the Blaze on their last two visits to the Basingstoke Arena.

When last in town, Coventry were beaten 4-2 with Danny Stewart scoring twice, while Greg Owen and Derek Campbell also got on the scoresheet.

Tickets are selling fast for Saturday's must win game against the Blaze, so hurry and book yours now from the box office on (01256) 355266. The game has a 6.30pm face-off.

Then on Sunday night, the Caps and Bison meet in Murrayfield for a game which could well decide, who will face Coventry next week in the play-off quarter-finals.

Talking ahead of the three games Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "We want to make the play-offs, as that has been our aim all year.

"It could all come down to the final game of the season, but we will looking to chip away and pick up points against Belfast and Coventry.

"If it ends up being decided in Edinburgh, they will have home advantage, but we have won in their building before and we will have to do it again."
