Hard hitting Canadian forward Derek Campbell is the latest addition to the Basingstoke Bison for the coming season.
The 25-year-old will play in Britain for the first time this autumn, having last year played for the Memphis Riverkings in the Central Hockey League.
The six footer who hails from Duncan, British Columbia helped his side to their Conference final and in total played 82 games collecting 33 points and 176 minutes in penalties.
The new signing to the Herd played his junior hockey in British Columbia winning a championship in the America Western Hockey League with the Fernie Ghostriders.
From there he twice made the all star teams in the British Columbia Hockey League and in his final year scored 38 times in a points total of 76 points for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
.
His pro career started in the East Coast Hockey League with Toledo Storm, after that he played for the Victoria Salmon Kings and in Holland for the Geleen Smoke Eaters.
Bison boss Ryan Aldridge is not expecting his latest player to set the scoreboard on fire, but feels he will play just as an important role for the Herd.
Aldridge said: "Derek is a hard working forward and he brings something else to the mix of the team. He is known as a hitter and will lead the team - if not the league in hits this season.
"He is also not afraid to drop his gloves and will chip in with his fair share of goals."
He added: "Building a team is all about balance and not securing players with the same style of play. I think Derek adds to the depth of the squad and gives us a few more options."
Talking from his home on Vancouver Island, Campbell said: "I am really excited about coming to England and can't wait for the season to start. I have spoken to a number of players who have played in Britain and have a good idea of what to expect."
As to what the Bison faithful will be getting from their latest signing, Campbell said: "I am a feisty guy who loves to hit and I don't mind fighting for the team. Last year was my best ever year for points as a pro and I want to build on that with the Bison."
