Mo's Mumblings
15th of May 2009
Hi to all Bison fans and to any others who just wanted to read what's on Mo's mind today.

Firstly let me say how impressed I was with the turnout last week to the Season Ticket night. Even though it is only May, everyone seemed very excited about next season.

I do not know the numbers but I would venture a guess of over 200 people. Hopefully we can have another hockey related night during the summer to help hype up and increase the excitement of next season.

Having played hockey in this country for many years and seeing the many changes along the way, it saddens me to have seen so many teams being forced to discontinue.

The latest team on the brink of winding up is Bracknell.
In my mind this is crazy as Bracknell have always been one of the "mainstays" and well supported clubs.

The Bees have a great history and somehow this team must be saved. I am sure that the owners, sponsors, and supporters have all racked their brains in an attempt for the club to continue forward next season and for many seasons to come. I surely hope that this can be achieved.

The future of Telford, Isle of Wight and Romford also looks bleak which is disheartening. How would this affect the junior programs?

Without a senior team to support and for the kids to aspire to, juniors will be less likely to play ice hockey.

The morning after I heard the Romford news, big Jan sent me a text saying that he wanted to come play for me in Basingstoke.

Everything looked good after a number of discussions and I thought the big man would be heading our way. However, 24 hours later I received an e-mail saying that he was signing for another team.

He said that the offer was too good to turn down. These things happen in ice hockey and I wish him the best. He is a great guy and his new team and fans will undoubtedly benefit from his presence on the ice and his personality off the ice.

I think I might write a weekly Mo's Mumblings leading up to the season. A Jets supporter mentioned that she would miss me purely because of my Manchester United comments.

This will motivate me to ensure that I continue writing about the boys in red. 95 per cent of the Slough fans are superb! The five per cent that support Chelsea, well, I guess I don't really have a comment about them.

I just want to say hi to my old friend Marky D who lives in northern Canada where I believe he is still lumberjacking. His ice hockey days of crushing opponents with a swift motion of the hand are over, but apparently his soft handed DJing skills still remain.

Maybe see you down at the Kite Festival on June 6th or 7th!
