Cruikshank back for two more years
13th of March 2008
Hot on the heels of the Basingstoke Bison's superb 4-2 British Knockout Cup first leg victory over the league champions the Coventry Blaze.

There is more great news out of the Hampshire club today, as the Herd have announced their current captain and fan's favourite Brad Cruikshank has signed on for two more years in Basingstoke.

The all-action Canadian is rated as one of best tough guys in the bmibaby Elite League and is never afraid to stick-up for this team mates.

The 27-year-old is currently in his third year with the team and as well as leading them in fights, he also gets his fair share of big goals for the Herd, none more so than earlier in the season when he scored twice in the final minute to bag his side a 5-4 win over the Manchester Phoenix.

The native of British Columbia has also scored two hat-tricks for Basingstoke in his career last season in Belfast and this campaign on home ice against the Nottingham Panthers.

That was part of a goal tally of 29 so far this season, which puts him second in the goal scoring charts for the club this year.

A delighted Bison head Ryan Aldridge said: " He is an awesome player. He is great leader both on and off the ice and has to be the best tough guy in this league. For sure other clubs would have been after him, so that is why I am so pleased he has signed for us."

Captain Cruikshank said: "It has been a difficult year here in Basingstoke, but the people of town have always treated me and family so well, so this place feels like home.

"I still have some unfinished business here. I want to bring a Championship back and that would be great in next season's 20th anniversary year. I am sure we will have a team to compete with the best next season and I am looking forward to being part of it."

On Tuesday night, Cruikshank will be hoping to lift his first piece of silverware for the club when they travel to Skydome to face the Coventry Blaze in the second leg of the British Knockout Cup final.
