Two great signings for the Herd
16th of April 2009
The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of top British players Tony Redmond and Nicky Chinn.

The Bison faithful will delighted that fans favourite Redmond has returned for a fourth spell at the club. He has played in every Basingstoke team that has ever won any silverware.

The 35-year-old Scotsman will also take on the role of assistant/coach for the club and this reunites the excellent team that was at Slough last season, when he held the role alongside new Bison player/coach Steve Moria.

When last in a Basingstoke shirt, Redmond was a forward, but he now plays on the blue line as one of the more solid British defencemen in the English Premier League.

Delighted with the acquisition of Redmond, Moria said: "He was the first person I approached after getting the job in Basingstoke. He is a great leader and has a great knowledge of the game. Together last season we formed a great team in Slough."

Redmond said: "I am really delighted to be putting my Bison jersey back on, and returning home for what will be my 11th season at Basingstoke. I know it has been a tough couple of years for the Bison fans but this is a new beginning and I believe the start of something special.

"I am really looking forward to assisting Mo again and have no doubt that our fans will be thrilled about the team we are busily putting together. Getting the heart, passion and the winning mentality back in to the Bison is something we will be striving for as we all want to win silverware.

He added: "The Bison fans are fantastic and I have made many wonderful friends through the years - my family and I are looking forward to catching up with you all soon."

Also joining the Herd from Slough is forward Chinn and the 37-year-old Welshman also brings a wealth of experience to the team.

The Jets captain last season was also their leading British points scorer with 61 points from 54 games.

He has worn the Bison jersey before when he guested in two games for the club in their first season in the Elite League scoring once.

The Herd supporters will remember the feisty forward from his days at Cardiff where he made his debut at 16 and in local derby matches with the Guildford Flames.

Talking about another great signing for the Herd, Moria said: "He is a important player for this team as he inspires others around him and gets the best out of them. Add to that his strength and offensive skills makes him a key signing."

Delighted to be joining the Bison, Chinn said: ""I had some good years at Slough, but being part of a brand new team is really exciting and I am looking forward to the new challenge with Basingstoke.

"The Basingstoke fans are always great and I definitely believe we can win some trophies this season."
