Bison look to maintain home rule
5th of February 2009
The Basingstoke Bison will be hoping to maintain their winning home record this season against the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday, when the Elite League leaders make their second trip to Hampshire.

When these sides met earlier in the campaign, it turned out to be a real thriller with Bison's Greg Chambers winning the match with 18th shot of a penalty shoot-out.

This after the game had ended 3-3, as Chambers bagged a brace and Brent Hughes got the other home goal. The Steelers' strikes came from Jeff Legue, Rod Sarich and former Basingstoke favourite Doug Sheppard.

The Bison will be keen to halt their recent run of home defeats and so often in past Basingstoke, have pulled off great results against the league leaders in their own barn. That was the case with Coventry last year and Belfast the season before,

Player/coach Eric Braff said: "Sheffield are a team with a lot of depth. It is going to be a mountain to climb, but we are ready for the challenge. We have to stop this losing run sometime, why not this Saturday."

The return of the Steelers, will see former Bison captain Brad Cruikshank back in town again and tickets to see him and enjoy a great night's entertainment are still available, by ringing the box office on (01256) 355266. The action starts at 6.30pm.

On Sunday, the Bison face another long road trip this time to Newcastle, to face the Vipers one last time. So far this season the home side have slithered away with the points on every occasion, so the Herd will want to take the final game spoils.

Talking ahead of a clash which is likely to see both Jeff Hutchins and Dean Holland miss the game for Newcastle. Braff said: "It is always tough playing in their building. They seem to have our number this year, but that will not stop us going there looking to get something out the game."
