Bison on victory hunt
25th of September 2008
The Basingstoke Bison will look to build on their excellent 4-3 victory in Cardiff last Sunday, as they return to Elite League action this weekend, The superb result in the Welsh capital in the Challenge Cup, saw goalie Kevin Reiter turn away 48 of 51 shots as Danny Stewart and Trevor Read scored their first goals of the campaign.

Now having got their first win and with a full week of practice under their belts, the Herd are ready for a tough looking weekend. They travel to Coventry on Saturday, before entertaining Belfast Giants on home ice on Sunday (6pm). Tickets for that game against one of the title favourites are still available on (01256) 355266

Eric Braff missing last weekend with an ankle injury, has been skating all week and looks set to return to the line-up. As yet their is no official news on any suspensions to be handed out on captain Brad Cruikshank and defenceman Curtiss Patrick after the pair picked up match penalties in Saturday night's game reverse against Cardiff.

New Bison import forward signing Matt Miller will once again be missing this weekend, as he awaits his paperwork to be completed, so he can fly in and link-up with his new team.

The Herd have already faced the Blaze twice this season, on the opening weekend. Then they suffered a 4-2 home loss, followed by a 8-2 defeat at the Skydome.

However, since then the Bison ranks have been swelled by addition of imports Reiter, Patrick, Trevor Read and Danny Stewart, so the team in Coventry will have a completely new look.

Head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "We have a much stronger team now and the results last time count for nothing. We will look to keep it simple as we did in Cardiff and I can't see why we cannot get something out of the game."

On Sunday, Belfast under the charge of former Bison assistant/coach Steve Thornton are in town for the first time. The Giants have had an impressive start to the campaign including a 6-3 win over the Bison earlier this month in the Odyssey.

Talking ahead of that game Aldridge said: "Belfast I think are the best team in the league. There passing is second to none. We are at home and we are not going to make it easy for them, as we want that first win in our own building."
