Miller completes Herd
18th of September 2008
The Basingstoke Bison are pleased to announce their final import signing is Canadian forward Matt Miller.

This hard nosed fast skating forward will fly into the country for his first spell in Britain, once the necessary paperwork has been sorted out. He will definitely miss Basingstoke's up coming double header weekend with the Cardiff Devils.

The sixth and final import forward hails from Sioux Lookout in Ontario and played for the past two seasons for the Amarillo Gorillas in the Central Hockey League.
There he was a team mate of Bison summer signings Trevor Read and Brent Hughes.

For the whole of his pro career Miller has been used as a fighter and this is the reason he has racked up 756 minutes in penalties. Despite numerous trips to the sin bin last season, the Bison new boy still managed to hit the net 20 times in a points tally of 45.

He has signed for the Bison to focus on his offensive skills and Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "He is not coming here to fight and we don't need him too. I am looking for Matt to gets points for us, which I sure he will do."

He added: "Talking to his former team mates they say he will be one of the fastest skaters in this league so that is going to add to the offensive talent on this team."

The 24-year-old talking from his home in Sioux Outlook is excited about coming to Britain for the first time and is looking forward to the bigger ice sheets.

Miller said: "I have always been one of the fastest, if not the fastest skater on my team. I also don't mind grind it out in the corners and I think I have a good shot too. Of course I can fight, but I know I am here to get points and I am looking forward to focussing on that.

"I think coming to Europe is the right move at this time of my career and I can't wait to get to Basingstoke."

Last night, the Bison's American netminder Kevin Reiter made his debut in Belfast, after a exhausting days travelling from North American.

The Herd lost the game to title favourites the Belfast Giants 6-3, with the new goalie making 37 saves in his first game against a well drilled home offence.
The Bison goals came from captain Brad Cruikshank with a brace and Ross Bowers with a single.
