Danny Stewart will return to the Basingstoke Bison line-up this weekend, as the Herd entertain the Manchester Phoenix and then travel to Newcastle Vipers.
The Bison have acted quickly after the news that summer recruit Austin Sutter would not be coming to Basingstoke and snapped up Canadian hot-shot Stewart, who had been on his way to Italy to play for SG Pontebba, before visa problems stopped his Italian adventure.
The Herd fans will be pleased to see their team's third highest goal scorer back on the team for his second season in Britain. Last year Stewart collected 60 points in 64 games hitting the net 29 times, only Gregs Owen and Chambers did better.
His most memorable goal being a super solo strike which was the overtime winner against visiting Newcastle last November.
Basingstoke head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "We needed a goal scorer and Danny fits the bill. We know what he brings to the team and he is certainly going to help us out. It is disappointing Austin (Sutter) is not coming, but as a team we have to move on."
As well as Stewart, new offensive defenceman Trevor Read has been training with his new team mates this week and Aldridge said: "He is fitting in well to the team and everyone in the dressing room is looking forward to the weekend."
The Bison other two imports Kevin Reiter and Curtiss Patrick are also expected to make their debuts on Saturday, as long as there are no last minute hitches. This leave the Herd just hunting for one final import.
Having suffered defeat against league champions Coventry Blaze in the Challenge Cup last weekend, Basingstoke will be keen to get their home league campaign off to a winning start. To do this they will have to dent Manchester's 100 per cent record so far.
The Phoenix with Great Britain goalie Stephen Murphy in net, have 11 out skating imports - seven of which are forwards.
Looking ahead to the game Aldridge said: "We will benefit from having extra guys this week. Manchester have a solid line-up with a lot of depth, but we want to win and are not going to roll over for anyone this season."
Tickets for the game which starts at 6.30pm, are still available from the box office (01256) 355266.
On Sunday night, the Bison travel north to face the Newcastle Vipers, who lost in overtime to Manchester last weekend. It will mean a return for Jeremy Cornish to on of his old stamping grounds and that is sure to mean fireworks with his old friend Andre Payette.
Bison coach Aldridge said: "It is always tough playing in Newcastle and I will expect it to be no different this weekend."
