Saturday night at the Basingstoke Arena will be the place to be this weekend, as the Herd stampede onto the ice for the first time this season.

After a turbulent week, in which the club survived the threat of folding, thanks to money raised by fans and a cash injection from Cardiff Devils owner Matt Bunge.

Now it is all systems go ready for the opening game against reigning league champions the Coventry Blaze in the Challenge Cup.

Tickets for this match are now on sale and all supporters will need a ticket, as the game is not included on the season ticket.

So don't miss out on a great night to welcome the new Herd for the coming season onto the ice with all the action starting at 6.30pm

Tickets can be purchased in person from the book office from 9.15am until 9pm on Thursday and Friday and 4pm on Saturday and again from 5.30pm.

Telesales for game can be purchased on (01256) 355266. Today until 9pm, Friday 9.15am-7.15pm and Saturday 9.15am-1.30pm.

The Herd's foreign legion have been flying in all week ahead of a double-header weekend with the Blaze, as on Sunday the team's will met againin the league opener at the Skydome.

The team will be minus defenceman Curtiss Patrick due to paperwork problems, while head coach Ryan Aldridge will lace up his skates as the club still have to sign one more forward import.

The Bison boss said: "We know we are for a tough weekend and are definitely the underdogs, but we will go out there and do the best we can. After all that has happened this week that is the least we can do."

Brad Cruikshank will once again be the Basingstoke captain for this season with the As going to Eric Braff and Jeremy Cornish.

Saturday's visitors Coventry, include former Bison players Greg Wood and Ben O'Connor continued their warm-up to the new season, on Wednesday night with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Sheffield Steelers.

The Blaze have made some changes to their line-up, but still include deadly duo Adam Calder and Dan Carlson, who are now teamed up with Sylvain Deschatelets from Cardiff.

Enforcer Carlyle Lewis arrives from Belfast, netminder JF Perras from Edinburgh, while new boys to Britain are Scott Kelman and Corey LeClair.

Looking at their line-up Aldridge said: "They have lost who I thought was the best all round player in the league in Sylvain Cloutier and also a great goalie in Trevor Koenig, but Tommo (Paul Thompson) always has that knack of recruiting well and that is why his team are always so successful."
