Cornish ready to cream for Bison
24th of July 2008
The Basingstoke Bison are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian tough guy Jeremy Cornish for the coming season.

The latest addition to the Herd is no stranger to the Elite League having made a name for himself, ever since his debut in the autumn of 2004 for the London Racers.

The all-action Lucan, Ontario native had a successful time in the capital, but on the demise of the club, he headed north to add some grit to the Newcastle Vipers. There he enjoyed play-off success in the spring of 2006.

Last season, the no-nonsense forward was the steel in the Sheffield Steelers, before ending the year playing for the Bloomington Prairie Thunder in the International Hockey League, alongside a former Bison legendary hardman Jeff Ewasko.

His split season saw him score seven goals as well as racking up 287 minutes in penalties from 75 games.

Against the Bison last year in a Steelers jersey, Cornish picked up three points in four games including scoring the game winner on the Basingstoke first visit to South Yorkshire.

Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge is sure the latest addition to his team is going to be a big hit with the Bison fans and go another step further in making Basingstoke a place no team wants to come and play.

The Herd's boss said: "Corny will definitely bring some more toughness to the line-up and he is player no one wants to play against and I am sure he will be become a firm fans favourite.

"He knows what his role is on the team on the ice and is a great guy off it. He will be playing on the third line with the two Brits and I am sure they will benefit from having him out there with them."

Talking from home town in Ontario, Cornish said: "I am excited to be coming to the Basingstoke, the fans have always been passion there and rivalry in that building when I was with London was great. I can't wait to get there.

"I think Basingstoke are putting together a good team and I know what my job is it has been the same for the last 12 years, but I will also look to bring some leadership into the dressing room and help other guys out. I just want to play hard game in and game out and hopefully as a team we can win a trophy."
