The Basingstoke Bison are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian forward Austin Sutter.
The 22-year-old from Red Deer, Alberta is sure to add to some more firepower to the Herd's offensive and last season played in the Central Hockey League for the Amarillo Gorillas scoring 24 times in a 65 points haul.
The raw young talent finished fourth in the Texas team's scoring race, just one place behind Chris Lipsett who was the Sheffield Steelers top goal scorer in their Superleague season of 2001/02.
Sutter has spent the past two campaigns with the Gorillas, where he ranked up over 100 points in all games and moving to the Bison will be his first taste of ice hockey outside North America.
The Herd's new winger also top scorer for the Powell River Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League in season 2003/04 with 70 points in just 59 games.
Sutter will have a familar face in the dressing room for the coming year as he will re-join Gorillas team mate Trevor Read who was signed last month by Basingstoke.
Read feels Sutter will be a good addition to the Herd's line-up and said: "He is good skater with a good hard shot and can pass the puck well. With the right guys he will score a lot of points and I think it will do well for the Bison."
Basingstoke head coach Ryan Aldridge has earmarked a spot on the Bison's second line for the new forward, which could see him play alongside another summer capture British centreman Mark Richardson.
Talking about the latest addition to the team, Aldridge said: "He wants to come to this country and make a name for himself. I have had a number of good reports about him and think this is another great signing for the Bison."
