Bison sign new goalie

The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of Joe White, as one of their two netminders for the coming campaign.

The 19-year-old British born goalie who played for Great Britain under-20s last season in the World Championships moves to the Herd from English Premier League Swindon Wildcats.

He has done a sterling job as their back-up netminder for the past two years and before that played in North American with Omaha Energy.

He learnt his hockey in Kent with Invicta, before playing a major part in helping the Guilford Firestars to the English under-16 crown.

White will be the Herd's back-up shot stopper and is rated as one of top teenager goalies in the country, He comes highly recommended by his coach last season Peter Russell.

Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "He is a good young goalie who wants to prove himself and feels that a move into the Elite League is the right step for him.

"I have heard only good things about him and he did well for Swindon last season when he was called upon."

While the Bison's import goalie who face the majority of the rubber next term, White is sure to see some action during the year.

Aldridge added: "It is a difficult job being a back-up, but he knows what it is all about from being at Swindon. For sure he is going to get the opportunity to play and I am sure he will not disappoint."
