Read all about it - Bison sign Trevor
19th of June 2008
The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian offensive defencman Trevor Read.

The 28-year-old from Calgary is the complete defence package as he has the physical presence to clear his own net, plus the hands to make that first pass out of the zone.

This will be his first time in Britain having spent the last three seasons in Texas in the Central Hockey League firstly with the Austin Ice Bats and then the last two and a half years with the Amarillo Gorillas playing 171 games.

Last season the 6ft 1in 215 pounder collected 25 points from 61 appearances while only sitting out 50 minutes in penalties, before his CHL spell, he played in the East Coast Hockey League and in his rookie professional season helped the Toledo Storm to the divisional title.

The signing of Read comes hot on the heels of American D-man Curtiss Patrick last week, while Patrick will add the brawn to the back division, Read will bring the flair as a very creative player.

The latest addition talking from home in Texas said: "I am very excited about coming to Britain and I have thought about for a number of years and now is the right time.

"I am a player who likes to jump up into the play, I have a good pass and good vision on the ice. I like to play on the powerplay and can't wait for the season to start."

Read added: "I have a good buddy in Brad Cruikshank already at the Bison and I am looking forward to playing on the same team as him again."

Bison captain Cruikshank believes the team's latest signing will be a big hit with the fans and said: "He is a smooth player and very laid back which in his case is a good thing. He can take care of his own end and is not afraid to clear people away from his net. He also has very accurate soft pass which makes him a joy to watch. I am sure he will do well in his league and I think he will could get about 50 points."

Basingstoke head coach Ryan Aldridge is also happy with the latest addition to the Herd and said: "He is a skilled physical guy who does not pick up many penalties. I am sure he is going to do well in his first season with the Bison."
