Bison beef up blue line
12th of June 2008
The Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce their first new import signing for the coming season in American defenceman Curtiss Patrick.

The 28-year-old hails from Hampton, Virginia and at 6ft 3in and 210 lbs, he will certainly add some beef to the Bison blue line in what will be his first taste of the British game.

Known as a good hitter, the latest addition to the Herd won three ACHA Championships with Pennsylvania State University, before joining the Johnstown Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey League in 2003/04.

From there he has spent the last four years with the Wheeling Nailers again in the ECHL and also has had two spells in the American Hockey League with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins where he picked up two assists in just 10 games and the Springfield Falcons.

The last four years of his career have seen him return a points tally of seven goals and 19 helpers reflecting his style as a stay at home defenceman.

The new boy to the Bison has a very good hockey pedigree as the three previous generations of his family have played in the NHL and the family are dubbed 'Hockey's Royal Family'.

Talking about his third import signing of the close season Bison head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "Last year he missed a chunk of the season due to a hand injury, but is full recovered now. He is a player who has spent the last four years at the same club and that is something I like in a player it shows loyalty and is a real team player.

"Curtiss is a physical player and someone who can certainly look after himself if he needs to fight. I am sure he will do well for the Bison."

The club also unveiled their brand new shirts for next season this week and in keeping with recent years there are three with red being their home jersey, black the away and grey for the cup competitions.
