The Basingstoke Bison stampede is all set and ready to go, for their exciting league opener with the visiting Manchester Phoenix.
The action gets underway at 6.30pm on Saturday night, for the contest between two sides who are expected to be amongst the title challengers in the English Premier League.
Therefore it is sure to be a cracking game and a great night’s entertainment, as these long standing rivals lock horns.
The Herd will be full of confidence, as they hit the ice for their EPL campaign, after back-to-back victories over the Bracknell Bees last weekend.
Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: "I was very pleased with our performances against Bracknell and everyone on the team made a contribution. Now the guys just can’t wait for the league season to start.”
Saturday’s visitors Manchester have a team packed with former Elite League stars and their offence will be led by player/coach Tony Hand and Ed Courtenay, along with former Bison favourite Greg Wood.
However, Moria is sure his men will be up for the challenge and said: “ There is no doubt Manchester are a good team, but we are ready and want to start our league campaign with a win.”
Basingstoke will have to wait on the fitness of Sam Zajac and Jamie Line, who both have head injuries.
Bison boss Moria said: "If the doctors give them the all-clear to play and they feel alright, then both players will be in the line-up this weekend. You have to remember it is a long season and I am not going to rush anyone back into the team."
Doors open for Saturday’s Phoenix game at 5.30pm. Tickets are selling fast, so make sure you don’t miss out and ring the box office now on (01256) 355266.
On Sunday night, Basingstoke complete a tough looking opening weekend as they travel to the Guildford Flames for a game which has a 6pm face-off.
The match will see the first return to the Spectrum for former Flame and new Bison forward Ollie Bronnimann, who like fellow forwards Ondrej Lauko and Tom Long scored in both games last weekend.
Talking ahead of the Herd’s first local league derby of the season, Moria said: “Guildford always have a strong side and this year it will be no different. They are very good on their own ice and so this is going to be a tough test for us.”
