Show Stopper
29th of September 2009
By Graham Merry

WHAT a difference a week made to the fortunes of Bison netminder Davey Lawrence.

Last weekend the Herd’s giant shot stopper was very disappointed with his performance in the Manchester Phoenix loss. However, he erased that memory with a great show against the visiting Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday.

The Bison won a very close contest 2-1 in what turned into the battle of the goalies. Lawrence came out on top and was only denied his and the club’s first shut-out of the year when he was beaten five minutes from time.

With good cause to be pleased with himself, Yorkshireman Lawrence said: “After last week I wanted to prove what I could do and I feel I have done that tonight.

“Last week was my bad game for the season, so its good to get that out of the way now.

“I played with a couple of Peterborough guys last season, so I was determined not to let them beat me, otherwise I would never have heard the end of it.”

Bison coach Steve Moria also had praise for his goalie: “That is the Davey I know and played against last year. He is a big goalie who is very difficult to beat and was exceptional tonight.”
