Bison ready to cut down Scimitars
Winning is a habit that the Basingstoke Bison want to maintain and next up for them on Saturday is a visit from the Sheffield Scimitars.
This is the first ever meeting between these two sides and the Herd, who recorded win number three of their EPL campaign on Sunday in Romford, are now keen to put the Scimitars to the sword next.
The Bison are enjoying their most successful start to a season since 2001, but Sheffield have already proved they can cut it too and like Basingstoke have three wins from their first four outings.
The Yorkshire visitors have two very useful import forwards in Peter Slamiar and Joakim Millqvist, along with Czech teenager defenceman Daniel Slyk and hugely experienced Finnish goalie Pasi Raitanen.
Add to that a very good core of British players mostly home grown and you start to realise why this team is doing so well.
So Saturday will be no walk in the park for the Bison. It looks to be another tense match at the Basingstoke Arena. All the excitement starts at 6.30pm.
Looking ahead to the Scimitars game, Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: “I would expect them to play a strong defensive game built around the goaltending of Pasi Raitanen.
“We have to stick to our offensive plans and make sure as we did against Peterborough, that we come away with the points.”
The Herd will only be minus forward Jamie Line for the weekend, as he recovers from a face injury.
Tickets are still available for another great Saturday night of hockey, they can be purchased from the box office on (01256) 355266.
On Sunday (6pm), the Basingstoke Bison make the short trip up the M4 to Bracknell to face the Bees. The Herd will be looking to repeat the success at the Hive last month in a challenge game.
