The Scimitars have caught a number of teams by surprise during the first few weeks of the season. From what I have heard, they have been skating as a team for a couple of months already. They will be well schooled and in peak physical condition. Stephen Wallace is a very skilled hockey player and the Scims have one of the biggest young prospects in Robert Farmer, but their team strength is based on team defence and strong goaltending from Pasi Raitanen. We will have to break them down in the neutral zone and be prepared to work hard to create scoring opportunities.
Sitting here looking out the window I have noticed six pigeons sitting on the top of a roof across the road. I only mention this because it seemed that they have not moved in the last 15 minutes. Can birds remain completely still for a prolonged period of time? Or could it be possible that they are part of the roof? Guess what- they flew off all at once!
Although picking up four points last weekend, I didn’t feel that we played our best hockey. We seemed to lack something in our play, offensively we were not creating plays or getting enough scoring chances. Having said that, suddenly in the third period in Romford we began to move the puck around with precision and confidence resulting in five goals!
After four games of league play, I believe that we are stronger playing away from home. Our five Dmen have been outstanding in Guildford and Romford. Both Tom Annetts and Davey Lawrence played excellent games last weekend. From a personal point of view, I am beginning to start to feel a lot better on the ice. Joe is getting his speed back and beginning to look sharp. Of course I must mention Ondrej Lauko who continues to find the net. He missed a chance in Romford and I had to tell him that he can’t miss those chances. After all, if he has three chances to score, he scores three goals! Ondrej Ondrej Ondrej!!!
We were hoping to get out golfing on Wednesday but there appears to be a charity event on that day. Chinny, Andy Hemmings and Davey were definites with one or two other possibilities considering playing. I already have the beating of Chinny, whilst Hemmer does not look like a golfer to me. I am not sure about Davey, but he is a goalkeeper. They tend to be hackers around the golf
course.
The Bison website is becoming more active and we hope to have something new on the front page at least five times per week. I have asked Sam Oakford to write for the website. He has said that he would like to do it with the assistance of Andy Hemmings. I am not sure what they will call their article but I am sure it will be something a little bit different.
