The Basingstoke Bison have been spotted at the Aquadrome recently – trying out some new exercise techniques.
To complement their rigorous training regime, player/coach Steve Moria has introduced yoga sessions with Aquadrome yoga teacher Jacqui Morris.
Bison boss Moria said: "Yoga is a fitness technique relatively new to ice hockey training, but, after one session, it is clear to see that the long term benefits would help us with strength, balance and flexibility. "We hope that we can incorporate yoga into our training on a regular basis."
Teacher Morris, who has worked with many top teams said: "Many of the top professional football and rugby players are now balancing their hard contact training with Yoga such as Manchester United player Ryan Giggs, who believes his Yoga regime has extended his career. "Yoga can help to improve flexibility, but, more importantly, aid with recovery and prevent injuries".
The Bison players are sponsored by the Aquadrome, and train regularly in the gym. There are some workshops organised with the younger members of the Aquadrome with the Bison this year to encourage teens to realise the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Anyone interested in yoga classes will be pleased to know that early next year they will be starting at the Aquadrome.
For more details contact the Aquadrome on (01256) 472343 and ask to speak to Jacqui Morris.
