Bison ready for Flames showdown
Saturday will see title challengers Basingstoke Bison and Guildford Flames go head-to-head for the first this season in Hampshire.
It should prove to be another night of great family entertainment, as two of the top teams in the English Premier League do battle with the first puck being dropped at 6.30pm.
The Herd last weekend went joint top-of-the-table, after they stung the Bracknell Bees 12-0 and then maintained that position with a super 5-2 success in Slough.
That made it seven wins on the trot for the red-hot Bison, which is one better than visiting opponents on Saturday Guildford, who have been on fire since they were blanked on their opening weekend.
The Flames last defeat came at the hands of the Herd 3-2 at the Spectrum, as Slovak sniper Ondrej Lauko helped himself to a hat-trick.
So the Surrey side will be out for revenge while their Hampshire rivals will be keen to douse the Flames once more.
Contests between these sides over the years have always been hard fought battles and there is not reason to think it will be any different on Saturday.
The Herd will wait on the fitness of injured duo Scott Spearing and Tony Redmond, while the Flames will definitely be without the suspended Gary Clarke.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: “Guildford have a very strong offensive hockey team with three good scoring lines. Our job on Saturday is play good team defence and shut them down.
“We showed last weekend what we could in our own building and once again I will be looking for us to come out hard from the opening face-off. We don’t want them getting the jump on us and then having to play catch-up.”
Tickets for another local derby showdown on Saturday are still available by contacting the box office on (01256) 355266.
On Sunday night, the Bison face their first trip of the season to Altrincham to face the Manchester Phoenix – the only side to have beaten them this season.
