Saturday: Bison's Unbeaten run goes up in smoke
By Graham Merry
BASINGSTOKE Bison’s seven game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday night, as they lost 5-4 to the visiting Guildford Flames.
The home side were always playing catch-up in this game, after Rick Plant opened the scoring in the ninth minute.
The Bison equalised on the powerplay thanks to a low bullet from Mindy Kieras, but Rob Lamey made sure Guildford led 2-1 at the first break.
Stuart Potts extended the visitors lead in the second period, before Steve Moria narrowed the gap to one going into the final 20 minutes.
Once again, Guildford extended their lead from Martin Masa, only for the Bison to reply from Tom Long.
Then despite the Herd dominating the final period, Potts made it 5-3. In the final two minutes, the Bison set up an exciting finish as Ollie Bronnimann tipped home man-of-the-match Sam Zajac’s blue line shot.
However, Basingstoke-born and Guildford’s man-of-the-match Dean Skinns was not to be beaten again as the Flames won 5-4.
