It was disappointing having lost on Sunday night against Milton Keynes. We were fully aware that a win could have put us in top spot.
Although we cannot fault the work ethic of the guys, we were outplayed for large parts of the game. How can we get better? How can we play a “60 minute” game of hockey? I would have thought that every coach in the League will be asking these questions looking for answers. The perfect “60 minute” game is probably impossible as individual and team mistakes will always occur throughout the course of a hockey match.
I’m sure that the Bison players would have gone home Sunday night analyzing their performance and how they could have played better. What I really like about this team is that I believe that losing hurts every single guy in the squad. Our guys want to win and want to get better. After playing 10,000 games of hockey I am still searching for the perfectly played game!
With the unfortunate injury to Kurt, I am trying to find another defenceman to join us. Playing with only 4 Dmen is not ideal and I felt bad for the 4 guys who had to log more icetime than usual over the weekend. We do not want to be playing with tired bodies and tired minds. We are fully aware that mistakes are usually made in the latter stages of a “shift.”
Tonight is the opening game of the Planet Ice Shield which opens up another trophy opportunity. In the initial discussions regarding the competition I had suggested that we play a 4 on 4 format.
I thought this would be something different for the supporters to see. The offensive side of the game would be highlighted with more speed, passing and flow. One of the other teams was against the 4 on 4 idea, which was fair enough.
We are hoping to have a players/ supporters bowling night in a couple of weeks. I am not boasting but I am a very good bowler on the Wii. As long as Wii bowling and “real big round ball” bowling are similar then I will be knocking a lot of pins down!
We will let you know this weekend regarding a date for the bowlfest.
