The Basingstoke Arena is the place to be on Sunday night, as arch rivals the Basingstoke Bison and Slough Jets clash in an English Premier Cup showdown.
The fast and furious action of this local derby, which also doubles up as league game, gets under way at the earlier time of 5.30pm. So there is no reason why you can’t bring along the kids to this one and make it great family night out.
The Herd have already shot down the Jets this season at the Hangar 5-2. They will now look to do the same on home ice and take a big step towards their aim of a Cup semi-final place.
Currently, the Bison are fifth in the qualifying competition, but are just one point behind three teams above them, which includes the Jets, as the race for a final four places hots up.
Adding even more spice to Sunday’s game is the fact that four of the current Herd squad members, Steve Moria, Joe Ciccarello, Nicky Chinn and Jamie Line all wore Slough uniforms last season. Former Bison stars the Greener brothers Joe and Adam, along with Slava Koulikov are in the Jets line-up.
So don’t miss out and tickets are still available from the box office on 01256 355266, you know it makes sense to be there.
Talking ahead of the crunch cup clash, Bison player/coach Moria said: “We want to make the semi-finals of this competition like a number of other teams do and beating Slough will certainly help us achieve that. We know it is going to be a tough game and one the fans are sure to enjoy.”
Before Moria and his men can completely focus on the Slough showdown, they have a road trip to Swindon for a league game on Saturday night.
The Wildcats are not enjoying the best of times at the moment, but have a team capable of beating anyone on their day.
The Bison are hoping to welcome Tom Long back to their line-up this weekend after illness ruled him out the Herd’s last two games as 12-4 victory over Romford and a 3-2 loss in Guildford..
New Basingstoke signing Tyrone Miller will also be in the squad and makes his home Bison debut on Sunday night, but injured Scott Spearing, Tony Redmond and Kurt Reynolds are all still ruled out.
