Forthcoming Weekend Preview
26th of November 2009
The Basingstoke Bison will be looking to turn up the heat this weekend as they face local rivals the Guildford Flames.

The Herd put the Flames out in the first encounter this season, but in the last two showdowns Guildford have come out on top, by only by one goal.

So everything is set-up for another battle royal and a bumper crowd is expected to pack into the Basingstoke Arena for a game which has a 6.30pm face-off.

The Bison got back to winning ways on home ice last weekend, as they beat the Peterborough Phantoms 7-5 in a game which had a very exciting end, which kept the fans on the edge of their seats right up to the final hooter.

Another thriller should be in store again with the visit of the Flames even if the Bison are still set to be without Kurt Reynolds, Scott Spearing and Chris Wiggins.
However, that did not stop the guys last week from winning and they will be keen to repeat that this Saturday.

Looking ahead to the local derby, Bison player/coach Steve Moria said: “We still have guys out, but we have to keep picking up points to keep us in touch with the leaders. So far this season all our games with Guildford have been one-goal games and low scoring. I expect this one to be the same, but I am looking to come out on the winning team this time.”

Saturday’s game will also see the annual Teddy Bear Toss, in aid of Naomi House.
This is where fans of both sides bring along a cuddly toy and throw it on the ice, when Basingstoke score their first goal of the night.

The only thing the club ask is that they all cuddly toys are placed in a sealed plastic bag for hygiene reasons and that they have a CE safety label on them.

Tickets for Saturday’s showdown are still available from the box office on (01256) 355266. So make you don’t miss out on a great night’s entertainment and remember to bring your cuddly toy.

On Sunday, Basingstoke head north to face the Manchester Phoenix looking to end a winless streak against them.

The current league leaders have won all three games so far, but last time on home ice it was only after overtime.

So the Bison will travel with some hope of getting a result and Moria said: “They have had our number so far this season, but like every game we will go out there looking to win.”
