Mo's Mumblings
28th of November 2009
In a game that was essential to win, the guys played extremely hard to beat Peterborough last Saturday. Passionate, intense, gutsy and desperate are a few words that could be used to describe the game.

However the following night was a massive disappointment losing to an energetic Scimitars side. I never considered Sheffield to be one of the top teams in the EPL but I was wrong. This team is the real deal and they are playing with enthusiasm and confidence. There are more than a handful of Scimitar players bound to be top players in this country very soon.

There were a few surprising results last weekend. I can imagine how Tony Hand and Ed Courtenay felt when they walked into the Romford rink. One thing is almost certain and that is the skilled players usually do not play their best games at Romford. It is one of the most difficult places to play a game of hockey and the Raiders are beginning to recognize this advantage. In the past a few years ago, the building would be packed and it seemed that everyone was yelling abuse at the opposition throughout the whole game. Many players would lose their composure.

It’s another Guildford and Manchester weekend and not for the last time. I wonder what the fixture theory is behind this. The Flames broke out of a mini scoring slump to score in bunches against Swindon. All three games that we have played to date have been close one goal games. It is essential for us to play strong team defence. Scoring chances will come our way and we will have to finish some of those opportunities.

I trust that we will have a large number of teddy bears to toss onto the ice when the Bison score their first goal. I hope that we get to see the ice covered with bears very early in the game!

I was happy to see Tony Redmond return a week ahead of schedule. He is an integral part of the defence as well as his leadership both on and off the ice. Scott Spearing courageously attempted to contribute on Sunday but the news on Monday of his scan was not good. He may see a very lengthy spell of not being able to skate.
Let’s go get ourselves a big win tonight!
