Mo's Mumblings
3rd of December 2009
With a crowd in excess of 1000 people in attendance, the Bison versus Flames game was another nailbiter. The game was played at a ferocious pace with end to end action. We got ourselves in the perfect situation going 5-2 ahead as we entered the third period. We could not hang onto the lead and eventually Guildford tied the game at 5 each, sending the game into overtime.

During the OT session I tried something different and went with 3 forwards and 1 defenceman, making up a 1-2-1 type of system. I was hoping to attack with speed with a forward up each wall whilst the other forward was in a higher position. It will be something to consider the next time we go into overtime.

The penalty shootout has its sceptics but it definitely delivers excitement. The game hinging on 3 shooters on each team against one goalkeeper is tense and nerve-wracking.

The odds are with the keeper as one goal can sometimes win the hockey game for a team.
After the Flames scored the first goal, the pressure was on myself and Ondrej Lauko to find the back of the net. Sometimes I make up my mind beforehand what I am going to do on the penalty shot and other times I just let things happen naturally. On this occasion I was going to try to get the keeper to open his legs then fire the puck through the “5 hole”. It worked, or so I thought!

After scoring I immediately turned to see all of the Guildford supporters cheering which confused me as I was certain I had just scored. The referee had disallowed the goal! The puck went through the net which the referee failed to see. If the goal was allowed as it should have been, maybe we would have gone on to win the game!

Over 100 teddies were thrown onto the ice after the first Bison goal. Well done to the people in attendance who threw a bear! Wednesday night the Bison players visited the Hospital to deliver some of the teddies to children in the Hospital. We also helped out decorating and joining in to the Christmas spirit!
