Saturday: Lauko's quartet is music to Bison ears

By Graham Merry

SUPER Slovak sniper Ondrej Lauko went back to top of the EPL goal scoring charts after netting four times in the Basingstoke Bison’s 8-2 victory over the Romford Raiders on Saturday night.

The home side welcomed back Kurt Reynolds and Chris Wiggins for the contest and took control of the game with three goals in four first period minutes.

Tony Redmond with his first of the season opened the scoring followed by strikes from Joe Ciccarello and Lauko.

Romford pulled a goal back from their man-of-the-match Mikko Silvennoinen as it finished 3-1 at the first buzzer.

The second session saw Bison man-of-the-match Lauko score with a clinical strike only for Raiders Dean Tonks to make it 4-2.

However, that was the last time Davey Lawrence was beaten on the night and by the time the second hooter sounded, a classic shorthanded breakaway strike from Ciccarello and Lauko’s hat-trick marker had extended the Herd’s lead to four.

The last 20 minutes saw two further goals as Jamie Line and Lauko’s fourth on the powerplay, completed the scoring.

Sunday: Phantoms down Bison

By Graham Merry

FOUR first period goals sent the Basingstoke Bison to defeat at the Peterborough Phantoms 6-3 on Sunday night.

The home side opened the scoring in the third minute as Joe Miller netted and then James Ferrara doubled the Phantoms lead.

Man-of-the-match Miller grabbed his second of the game to make it 3-0 and then the all Brit line of Miller, Shaun Yardley and James Spurr struck again as Spurr gave them a four goal advantage.

The Bison then opened their account before the first buzzer thanks to Ondrej Lauko.

The second session, saw Ferrara make it 5-1 at 25:49, but the Herd then gave themselves a chance as Nicky Chinn and Steve Moria both netted to reduce the lead to two.

The final period saw just one goal as Yardley wrapped up Peterborough’s 6-3 victory.
