A CHRISTMAS cracker of a local derby saw the Basingstoke Bison beat their near neighbours Bracknell Bees 8-5 in a titanic battle on Saturday night.

The contest started well for the home side as Mindy Kieras opened their account on the powerplay, only for Bees man-of-the-match Jaroslav Cesky to score a straight hat-trick to put his side in the driving seat.

After the break, Bison man-of-the-match Steve Moria and then Chris Wiggins with a superb strike levelled the match.

From there the home side dominated as they swept to a 6-3 lead, thanks to Ollie Bronnimann, Joe Ciccarello and Wiggins second of the night.

Andrius Kaminskas kept for the visitors in the hunt with a goal just before the interval and Nicky Watt set up an grandstand with the Bees’ fifth six minutes after the re-start.

However, the Bison made sure of their victory as Bronnimann and Moria both grabbed their second goals of the night.
