Mo's Mumblings
19th of December 2009
In the sporting spectrum, the “local” derbies will usually deliver excitement, controversy and numerous discussion points.

A couple of weeks ago the Bison lost in a shootout which included a penalty shot which went through the net and was disallowed. Last weekend against Bracknell, it may have been less controversial but there were still numerous points of discussion amongst the hockey faithful.

As Panto shows and ice shows frequent this time of the year resulting in minimal ice time for training, both teams looked somewhat rusty. The one exception was Cesky who singlehandedly put the Bees into a 3 – 1 lead after the first period. Thirty minutes later the Bison were flying and had a 6- 3 lead. Although the gap was closed to just a single goal in the third session, we eventually won the big derby match 8-5.
Conceding five goals again at home was disappointing.

We have been looking at game footage, courtesy of the Bison TV guys. They have compiled a dvd of all the goals against. This gives us the opportunity to analyze why goals are being scored and how we are making mistakes leading up to these goals against. In time, I hope that this learning tool will help us concede fewer goals.

Our next League home action is not until Boxing Day against Swindon. People in Britain seem to enjoy getting out and watching sport the day after Christmas.

Traditionally, some of the biggest crowds in ice hockey are on Boxing Day so hopefully we will have a lot of people coming to our game!

On behalf of the Bison players and management, I would like to wish all the Bison supporters and Gazette readers a very Merry Christmas! Let it snow, let it snow!
