Congratulations to the GB team who captured the gold medal in Hungary. It is a fantastic achievement by all of the players involved. The biggest congratulations goes to the Bison’s Sam Oakford. Sam played an integral part in the success of winning the tournament.
I was fortunate to be able to play for the G.B. senior team for 5 years. During that time we had a very strong team and we were able to beat or tie teams like Switzerland, Austria, Latvia, Belarus and Denmark.
Although we competed well against some of the best hockey nations in the world, we could only manage a silver medal.
Two wins last weekend has given us the first “4 point” weekend since the first month of the season. I hope that this can act as a springboard for us as we begin the second half of the season. We are now tied for fifth spot with Sheffield and we must set our targets to put pressure on the top 4 teams.
This summer 3 or 4 of the Bison players are planning to cycle from London to Paris. We hope to raise a lot of money for charity. The ride takes 3-4 days in July finishing on the same day that the Tour De France finishes. As part of the ride, the cyclists will get the opportunity to watch the end of the Tour! I look forward to being a part of this and I will have to train heavily beforehand.
Happy New Year to everyone and let’s make 2010 a big success for the Bison!
