Forthcoming Weekend Preview
7th of January 2010
Bison hope to lightning strike leaders

League leaders Milton Keynes Lightning are the Basingstoke Bison’s next home opponents on Sunday evening, with the Herd eagerly looking to beat their rivals for the first time this campaign.

Confidence is high in the Bison camp after they broke their season duck last Saturday against the Manchester Phoenix – one MK’s biggest challengers for the title.

They will now be look to do the same again this weekend, in a match which has the earlier start time of 5.30pm.

So far in league encounters this season, the Lightning have struck twice over the Herd, winning 5-3 in Basingstoke, followed by 6-3 success in Buckinghamshire just before Christmas.

The Bison will still be minus Canadian import Joe Ciccarello who is set to fly back into the country next week, so Tony Redmond will remain on the forward line looking to add to his tally of four goals in the last four games.

The high flying Lightning will take some stopping, but player/coach Steve Moria is sure his men are up to the task and said: “They are hard working team who were always going to be a top four side. Last time their aggressive forecheck saw the puck in our end for long periods of the game, which is something we will have to change. After beating Manchester last weekend, I see no reason why we can’t repeat that against Milton Keynes.”

The match has also seen the Bison link up with the Basingstoke Gazette for a special Kids for a Quid offer which is available by purchasing a copy of Thursday’s paper and taking the Follow the Herd page to the box office when purchasing tickets for this game.

This means a child ticket will cost just Ł1, when a full paying adult ticket is purchased at the same time.

Otherwise tickets for what is set to be another great game at the Basingstoke Arena can be purchased from the box office on (01256) 355266.

Before there MK showdown, the Herd are on the road to the Link Centre to face the Swindon Wildcats on Saturday night.

Last time around in Wiltshire, the Bison lost in overtime, but when these sides met on Boxing Day in Basingstoke the Herd ran out 6-1 winners and will look to do the same again.

Bison boss Moria said: “Swindon are an inconsistent team which makes them very dangerous. We have to make sure we come out hard from the opening face-off and score early on to put them behind the eight ball.”
