Basingstoke Bison 4-3 Swindon Wildcats

THE BASINGSTOKE Bison kept their biggest crowd of the season 1,260 on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer, as they beat the visiting Swindon Wildcats in a thriller 4-3.

The Herd out shot the ‘Cats by 28-9 in the first period, but only scored once which was a long range shot from Nicky Chinn.

The second session saw man-of-the-match Ondrej Lauko doubled the advantage on the powerplay, as he hit the roof of the net.

The Slovak sniper then added his second of the game with a back-hand finish after Chinn did all the spade work.

Steve Moria made it 4-0 after being set-up by Lauko and the returning Joe Ciccarello hit the post soon after, as Swindon man-of-the match Geoff Woolhouse did well to keep them down Bison down to four goals in the opening two periods.

Swindon started the final session a lot brighter and Sam Bullas broke Davey Lawrence’s shut-out at 44:41.

From there the ‘Cats clawed there back into the contest as first Aaron Nell and then Matt Foord reduced the lead to one with six minutes exactly remaining.

At that point the Bison called a time-out and despite Swindon pulling their netminder in the final minute, the Herd held on to take the victory.

Romford Raiders 5-7 Basingstoke Bison

THE BASINGSTOKE Bison beat the Romford Raiders 7-5 to record their third victory at Rom Valley Way this season on Sunday night.

It completed the Herd first away clean sweep in the league since the campaign of 2002/03, when a certain Steve Moria was also in charge of the team.

The visitors took the lead in this contest in the fourth minute from captain Nicky Chinn, only for the Romford skipper Danny Marshall to equalise.

However, at the first buzzer the Bison led 2-1, after Chris Wiggins as he did on his last visit to Essex scored.

The second session saw Joe Ciccarello extend the lead to 3-1, only for Marshall to grab his second of the night.

The Bison then netted two without reply thanks to Moria and Ciccarello, on two man advantage.

With Basingstoke man-of-the-match Sam Zajac in the sin bin, Romford pulled a goal back as Darius Pliskauskas netted on his home debut to make it 5-3 at the second buzzer.

Ondrej Lauko opened the final period scoring with another powerplay goal, before Tom Long added Bison’s seventh.

Romford man-of-the-match Pliskauskas and Marshall with his hat-trick strike 11 seconds from time then completed the scoring.
